How the WordPress plugin handles multilingual SEO

Localized URLs, automatic hreflang tags, one sitemap index and translated metadata that works alongside Yoast SEO, Rank Math and All in One SEO.

Multilingual SEO is mostly about telling Google which URL is which language version of a page. In the WordPress plugin, FluentC does the technical part: localized URLs, hreflang tags, a single sitemap index and translated metadata for your SEO plugin.

Localized URLs

The plugin generates language-specific URLs such as /fr/about and /de/about, using subdirectories. That is one of the URL structures Google documents for multilingual sites. It helps Google understand language and regional targeting, and it makes language-specific pages easier to share and bookmark.

Note: Subdirectories are how the WordPress plugin works. FluentC Domains puts translations on a subdomain (es.yoursite.com) or a country domain (yoursite.de) instead.

Automatic hreflang tags

FluentC inserts <link rel="alternate" hreflang="xx" /> tags on every translated page. Hreflang annotations tell search engines that different URLs are translations of the same content, which avoids duplicate content problems. For example, /about (English) and /fr/about (French) each reference the other.

One sitemap index

FluentC does not create a separate sitemap file for each language. It uses a single sitemap index and declares the alternate language URLs through hreflang. That means less to maintain.

Works with your SEO plugin

The plugin works with:

  • Yoast SEO
  • Rank Math
  • All in One SEO

FluentC translates the meta titles, meta descriptions and URL slugs. Your SEO plugin keeps managing sitemaps and structured data, while FluentC handles the translated versions. No additional setup is needed.

Generated pages that Google can index

FluentC creates translated pages dynamically rather than storing them as static posts. Google still sees them as real pages, because:

  • each translated page has its own URL, such as /es/about
  • hreflang and your navigation links point to it
  • it returns translated content when requested

That matches what Google expects when it crawls and indexes localized pages. The same approach is why the plugin does not duplicate your pages and posts.

What you do not need to do

  • Create a separate sitemap file for each language.
  • Write hreflang tags by hand.
  • Install an extra plugin to make your SEO plugin work with translated pages.
